Our main approach to design rests on two interconnected gestures. The first is to position the main reading hall at the uppermost floor, creating an unbroken, luminous volume with expansive views of the city and surrounding landscape. This decision transforms the act of reaching the top floor-by way of an iconic staircase-into an architectural experience of ascent, encounter, and discovery. The staircase, functioning as both circulation and social condenser, frames moments of meeting with other users, the library's inner courtyard, and the wider campus horizon. The courtyard itself introduces daylight into the level below, ensuring a bright and serene reading environment.

The second gesture is the creation of a public space merging seamlessly with the plaza of the neighbouring faculty buildings. Here, large steps and seating rows double as an outdoor auditorium, inviting users into the library even outside official opening hours. This threshold space provides shelter from weather, encourages informal gatherings, and establishes a civic living room for the campus. Directly connected to the gallery and auditorium foyer, it acts as the spatial heart of the building.

 

Together, these two decisions articulate a design

that responds to the competition's call for a recognisable, multifunctional hub. The building becomes both icon and connector: an emblematic architectural object visible across the campus, and a porous urban interface binding academic, cultural, and public life. Functionally, circulation, study, and cultural programming are interwoven into a coherent sequence, ensuring adaptability, spatial comfort, and symbolic centrality for the University of Montenegro.

Tasarım yaklaşımı, birbirine bağlı iki temel unsura dayanır. Birincisi, ana okuma salonunu en üst kata yerleştirerek, şehrin ve çevredeki manzaranın geniş manzaralarını sunan kesintisiz, aydınlık bir hacim oluşturmaktır. Bu karar, ikonik bir merdivenle en üst kata ulaşma eylemini, yükseliş ve keşiften oluşan mimari bir deneyime dönüştürür. Hem dolaşım hem de sosyal karşılaşma alanı olarak işlev gören merdiven, diğer kullanıcılarla, kütüphanenin iç avlusuyla ve daha geniş kampüs ufkuyla buluşma anlarını çerçeveler. Avlu ve galeri boşluğu, gün ışığını alt kata taşıyarak aydınlık ve sakin bir okuma ortamı sağlar.

İkinci unsur ise, komşu fakülte binalarının meydanıyla kusursuz bir şekilde bütünleşen bir kamusal alan yaratmaktır. Burada, büyük basamaklar ve oturma sıraları, açık hava amfisi görevi görerek, kullanıcıları resmi açılış saatleri dışında da kütüphaneye davet eder. Bu eşik alanı, hava koşullarından korunma sağlar, gayri resmi buluşmaları teşvik eder ve kampüs için kamusal bir yaşam alanı oluşturur. Galeri ve oditoryum fuayesine doğrudan bağlı olan bu alan, binanın mekânsal kalbidir.

İşlevsel olarak dolaşım, Karadağ Üniversitesi için farklı ihtiyaçlara uyarlanabilir, mekansal konfor ve sembolik bir merkez sunacak şekilde, çalışma ve kültürel programlarla tutarlı bir şekilde örülmüştür.

Bu iki kararla tasarım yarışmanın simgeleşecek, çok fonksiyonlu bir merkez yaratm çağrısına yanıt veren bir tasarımı ortaya koyuyor. Bina hem bir simge hem de bir bağlantı noktası haline geliyor: Kampüs genelinden görülebilen sembolik bir yapı ve akademik, kültürel ve kamusal yaşamı birbirine bağlayan geçirgen bir kentsel arayüz...
