The Future of Değirmenburnu / Değirmenburnu’nun Geleceği

A conservation-led cultural landscape proposal for Bodrum’s historic windmills.
Değirmenburnu is not only defined by its historic windmills, but also by the spontaneous public life that has formed around them; walking, sitting on the rocks, watching the sunset, listening to the wind.

Our proposal approaches the site as a living cultural landscape shaped by wind, topography, historic ruins and everyday public life. The visitor programme is placed below the windmill ridge to preserve the silhouette, while the windmills are addressed through site-specific conservation strategies, landscape routes and small-scale public elements.

Değirmenburnu’nu yalnızca tarihî yel değirmenleri değil, onların çevresinde kendiliğinden oluşan kamusal hayat da tanımlar; yürümek, kayaların üzerinde oturmak, gün batımını izlemek, rüzgârı dinlemek.

Önerimiz, alanı rüzgâr, topoğrafya, tarihî kalıntılar ve gündelik kamusal yaşamla şekillenen yaşayan bir kültürel peyzaj olarak ele alır. Ziyaretçi programı, silüeti korumak amacıyla değirmenler sırtının alt kotunda konumlanırken; değirmenler yapıya özgü koruma stratejileri, peyzaj rotaları ve küçük ölçekli kamusal elemanlarla ele alınır.
